Aura Sports App

Aura aims to be one of the top multi-sport apps in the world, revolutionising the way fans engage with their favourite teams and players by becoming the number one sports app.

The app has undergone extensive development as a long-term project within an Agile environment, with strong collaboration between the Design team and other critical teams, including Product and Engineering. I actively contributed as a UX/UI Designer.

Unmet Needs

USERS' PAIN POINTS:

  • Fragmentation across many apps (e.g. search, chat, content) increasing time and effort

  • Linear and rigid content offering for high volume of content meaning less flexibility, access and control

  • Lack of shared social experiences to connect with others in one community

BUSINESS NEEDS:

  • Reaching and engaging younger tech-savvy audiences - Gen Z, Alpha

  • Technology solutions stack are rigid, expensive and unable to deliver agility, speed to market, experimentation and innovation for future

  • New monetisation streams beyond just advertising and subscription

Design Process

The app has been a long-term project developed within an Agile environment, in close collaboration with other key teams such as Product and Engineering.

Throughout the project, the Double-Diamond methodology was utilised for most of the design milestones. This involved conducting interviews with sports fans across Australia to understand various types of app users, as well as producing designs and conducting user testing at every stage of the process.

  • Data-related designs

  • Developing the Aura Design System

  • Conducting User Testings.

The Solution

Contextualisation and Personalisation are the key competitive advantage that Aura's technology possesses to distinguish its position in the market. Relevant content will be displayed based on users' data inputs and their interaction with the app.

The Aura sports app will serve as the foundation for future client projects in various sports domains, including basketball, football, hockey, or baseball, by utilising reusable components.

The goal is to create a unique journey for brands and audiences by bridging the gap between physical and digital experiences. This is achieved by developing immersive technology product experiences that fundamentally transform the way people interact with content.

During the Now phase, Aura's primary focus is on creating an app that centres around two essential elements: Content and Data. In the Future phase, Aura plans to introduce more interactive features to the app, including Community Engagement, Merchandising and Game Development, making it even more engaging for users.

The End Result

The designs implemented in this project have been the outcome of thorough research, ensuring alignment with the Design System for consistency and high quality. Additionally, the designs have been continuously reviewed and adjusted based on user testing feedback, ensuring that we are heading in the right direction.

Delivering relevant information to users about the games and sports they are interested in is effortlessly accomplished through content. We seamlessly integrate content from various platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and third-party news providers, presenting it in an enjoyable and easily consumable format. This approach ensures that users can access the latest updates, highlights, and news through familiar channels, enhancing their overall engagement and providing them with a delightful user experience.

Data serves as the primary driving force behind the Aura app, providing real-time sports data to users. The process of visualising this data has been invaluable, as it has enabled us to transform raw data into easily understandable information, even for individuals who are new to sports. Through careful data visualisation techniques, we have empowered users to effortlessly comprehend and engage with the information presented, enhancing their overall experience within the app.

Contextualisation and Personalisation play a vital role in delivering tailored content to users based on their individual needs, facilitated by an algorithmic system. By leveraging contextual cues and user data, we ensure that the app provides content that resonates with each user, giving them a sense of personalisation and a feeling that the app is designed specifically for them. This approach enhances the user experience by delivering relevant and meaningful content, fostering a deeper connection between the user and the app.
